In Summer 2020, Lydia and Holly were part of the Motherline creative collective, funded by Arts Council England and hosted by Peer Productions. For 10 weeks they responded to the theme 'Motherline' with other female artists on zoom. What came out of that was an excitement for female ancestry, and a desire to share untold stories.
Don't Forget Us - A Letter to my Female Ancestors.
In 2021 Holly and Lydia were commissioned by Arts at the Old Fire Station to create a short film on female lineage. Don't Forget us tells the story of Olga Hempel, Holly's great-great grandmother, using a piece of music that has been passed down through generations. Click the photo to watch.
Creative Ancestry Workshop
After making and sharing Don't Forget Us, Holly wanted to encourage others to share stories of their ancestors in fun and creative ways. The Creative Ancestry workshop uses singing, writing, story-telling, zine making and drawing to unlock stories of family history. The first workshop happened in August 2021 at Arts at the Old Fire Station. Keep an eye out for future workshops - or get in touch to commission one!
